<h1>Dropbox or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Use Web Apps</h1>
<p>Like a good nerd, the day I heard about Dropbox I installed it. I made
use of it's free storage, it's painless sync'ing. Funny pictures, apps,
books, music: it all went in, it all got sync'd. This was extremely
helpful when I started working. Install Dropbox on work machine, wait
for it to sync, and there are all my NES/SNES games waiting
for some quality procrastination to sink in. Or that picture I really
wanted to use as my background. Or that music I wanted to listen to. All
sync'd, all in one place. Organized, efficient, localized; Dropbox'd.</p>
<p>Then a change of mind: why do I keep all this stuff that I find online
on my local machine? I'm basically just duplicating files which already
exist in locations online, offline for ease of access. There are websites
which already tackle this problem. Thus, my quest began, to migrate from
Dropbox to existing services, and remove another program from my machine.

<h2>From One to Many</h2> <p>There are many places that the previously all
centralized content of my Dropbox is heading.

<h2>Rationale</h2> <p>There are two primary, and one secondary, reasons for
this sudden decision. First, I like having control of my environment.
That's tough in life, but easy on a computer. It's part of the reason I
love Linux so much. Second, I like my privacy. Again, tough in life, but a
bit easier on a computer. Dropbox has the ability to delve into any of my
files as they deem fit. Google is better, but still not completely
under my jurisdiction. However, they're better enough for the
inconsequential information I'm storing on their systems. Lastly, and
secondary, is the fact that Dropbox has moved to a proprietary software
base. It's a relatively minor gripe, but if I can use and promote open
software over closed software, I'll do so.</p>

I chose the location of this assignment based on several criteria. First,
the restaurant has outdoor seating, allowing me to have a public hit with ease
of escape. Second, the restaurant itself is located in a tightly-packed part of
the city, meaning I had many options for an escape plan through the many alley
ways. Finally, it has good souffle.
Target was a banker of some sort or another. Stole the wrong person's money.
Nothing new.
I sat at a table just outside where the target had reservations. I ordered a
salad, but requested no tomatoes, and explained it aggrivated my gout. The mint
I had taken moment before masked my breath with a rank smell. I made it
a point to brush my hair, which was cut short and colored brown. I also ordered
a creamy soup, and made it a point to have some in my beard for the waitress to
point out. Beard was full, slightly greying. I had considered feigning a
Brooklyn accent, but decided not to overplay the role. I wore a black
button-down shirt, tucked into a nice pear of jeans, and with a corduoroy
blazer.
After I finished my souffle, the target had just ordered his meal. The hit was
clean and quick, and I made my escape. Jumping the short fence surrounding
the outside eating area, I sprinted down the street, and made a left at the
first alley. I had one man following me, a waiter from the restaurant, and I
fired a warning shot back at him. He desisted. I wound through two more alleys
and finally climbed up a fire escape. I ascended to the fourth floor, and
entered a small, empty apartment. I took the stairs the remaining 6 floors up to
the roof, and jumped a small gap to the adjacent apartment building. I left that
building, and crossed to a hotel.
Back in my room, I cleaned and stored my weapon for disposal. After that, I
removed the clothing and dissolved it in a small bucket of fluid, which I then
diluted with water from the bathtub and flushed down the toilet. In my
maintenance bag I took out dropper 3 (for blue eyes, with a splash of green) and
the Fabio (long and full blonde hair). The drops would go in last, as they
lasted the shortest. I took the Fabio which would take roughly 20 minutes to
accelerate my hair growth. The new hair would be blonde, but I would need to
trim the remaining brown from the ends. As my hair grew, I trimmed my beard into
a short goatee and brushed in a blonde coloring. Finishing up, I put on a lotion
to make my face slightly greasy. My outfit was corduoroy pants, loose, with a
loose-fitting beige long-sleeve shirt; California hippie. I put on my glasses,
and began an AR-scan of the room for DNA. Removing a small crawling bot from my
pouch, it destroyed everything my glasses marked, then did a follow-up scan of
the room as I finished packing. I popped a mint to neutralize the previous one.
Leaving the hotel, I had a backpack with all my belongings, wearing my glasses
and reading my phone. I walked the two blocks on the main street to the
restaurant where police had cordoned off the restaurant, and on-lookers were
gathered. On the way I had smoked a fake clove cigarette for the aroma. I found
the waitress who had served me before and started making small-talk with her. I
verified she did not recognize me, and began to scan the scene for evidence.
Aside from the few hair folicles (loaded with false DNA), and the bullet casings
(linked to a pistol found near the lake), everything looked in order. A quick
tweet-pic of the scene from a temporary account (1 tweet, then deleted),
and I wiped and dropped my burner into a trash can.
Took bus to train station, and left for safe house 12.

<p>My name is Bill Niblock. I am a computer scientist by education, a computer junkie by hobby, and a gamer by preference.</p><br />
<p>While not slaving away at my day job, I can most likely be found staring into a glowing rectangle, watching text and motion picture fly by. I am an avid gamer, preferring the PC over most consoles, but I by no means neglect their worthiness. I spend a lot of time on YouTube, even more time on reddit, and somehow even more time on game-streaming sites. Common between all these (except maybe YouTube) is the awesome community that gaming can provide, an environment which I believe is of great importance to the future of gaming, and is still very much in its infant stage. I hope someday to help foster said community into a veritable juggernaut of awesome.</p><br />
<p>Aside from gaming, I also enjoy coding. As of the time of this rendition of my about page, I can't claim much in the way of worthwhile web applications. I have a comfy job, and a comfy life, and complacency breeds apathy; in other words, I'm lazy. I enjoy exploring new technologies, and I hope that in the near future, I can combine them with my love for the gaming community to create something truely magnificent. Stay tuned!</p><br />
<p>Offline, I am an amateur philosopher, an aspiring musician, an avid reader, and a novice socialite. There are many aspects of my life that I enjoy jumping between, and I hope that through this site, I can share many of them with you.</p>

<p><span style="font-style:italic">The Internet Vagabond</span> is the personal site of me, Bill Niblock. Mostly a blog, this site moreso serves as a digital playground, for me to experiment with new features in web development.</p><br />
<p>Initially a pet-project, I hope to develop the site into something more than just another blog. Many of the projects I think of I hope to develop on this site, making use of it for commentary, community and statuses. While I can understand the importance of maintaining secrecy in business endeavors, I can also appreciate that many of those endeavors are lost to endless bureaucracy due to exactly that secrecy. For many of my projects, it would be far better if they even saw the light of day than be held back simply because I thought I could make a few bucks on them.</p><br />
<p>I also want this site to act as a "social front page" for my online presence. By pulling in my Twitter posts, my Google+ posts, and mixing in any stand-alone articles, I can gather anything and everything interesting about me or by me in one location. I've never been a proponent of narcisistic endeavors, but I can justify this one as a worthwhile pursuit of knowledge. Besides, if someone else stumbles upon my site and thinks they would like a similar layout or blog, then they have a starting place and some example code to work with</p>
